Mr. Barratt, a single young professional, needed both a residence and an office. The client also specified the need for a separate residential rental space to help offset the high housing costs associated with this resort community.
The main living spaces are on the second floor opening up views through the trees to the majestic mountains which surround the ski village.
The lower floor contains a 650 sf one-bedroom apartment and a bedroom, bath and entry for the primary residence. The third floor with its nearly 360 degree mountain views is entirely dedicated to office space for the client’s landscape architecture practice.
The stair tower and light-well connect these floors together and at the same time provide for separation and privacy between the office and living spaces.
S.M. Stemper Architects’ design successfully met the complicated program requirements and the client’s limited budget in a style sympathetic to its environment.
