The Jackson Center is a 12,000 sf facility located in the heart of the EvCC campus. Over the years, this uniquely shaped building has housed student services (most recently), served as a central storage area, and event space.
EvCC leadership envisioned re-purposing the building to a more state-of-the-art conference center, designed to attract feature presentations and serve as a revenue source for the College.
Concept Study — Phase I: SMSA prepared the Jackson Center Concept Study which included conference center schematics as well as schematics for moving the current tenants (Enrollment Services & Cashiering) into the Parks Student Union. EvCC leadership decided to move ahead with the project and targeted a final completion date of May 31, 2012 — the 100th birthday anniversary of Henry M. Jackson, the building’s namesake and former Washington State Senator.
Predesign / Design (Phase II): Several floor plan schematics were considered by EvCC leadership and users. The reconfigured/renovated space consists of:
- A large multi-purpose auditorium area;
- 2 breakout rooms;
- New ADA compliant toilet facilities; and
- Upgraded building infrastructure, furnishings, and fixtures (lighting, Audio Visual system, window coverings, flooring).
The project was completed on time — May 31, 2012.
